While the Bonded pair are particularly busy - between their everyday work for the Coven and Parliament, and looking for answers to new arrivals' questions - they've placed a mailbox outside the Coven gates for anyone to leave a letter for them. These can be non-urgent queries, updates for Nessie or Mhairi, requests for in-person appointments, etc.

You can also reach them both by watch now! They've gotten their own, and will answer at their earliest availability. However, if your message or request for them is time sensitive, it's always recommended that you seek them out at the Coven itself, especially to reach Miss Nessie. Relaying messages through Parliament can be difficult, but this is also an option, if Mhairi is currently attending a session.

If you wish to interact with Nessie and Mhairi outside of the intro logs, please comment here. You have the option of handwaving the IC interaction to OOCly ask what questions your character might have for them, for us to summarize an answer for, or you can request an IC thread. Simply specify in your comment's subject IC or OOC, comment to the specific NPC you'd like to contact, and we'll respond accordingly. If you're looking to speak to both, please respond to the toplevel below.

Face-to-face IC interactions are granted in special OOC circumstances, such as follow-ups to quests, investigations, or a previous thread. OOC "handwaving" of a face-to-face interaction is still good to go!

[ ah, her reputation precedes her. that's certainly mhairi's doing, making her out to be so skilled... not that it isn't rightfully earned, but it's still a tad bit embarrassing. ]

If it's for that, then certainly, Tori, I'd be happy to teach you a few things. I wish I could devote a little more time to you, but [ well, a helpless gesture, ] you know how things are, you do.

[ but for now, she can! she can, and she will. from one of her drawers she pulls a knife, the ametrine crystal in its hilt shaped like a flower, and sets it between them. ]

Shall we start now?

[, oh gosh that is a whole ass dagger. that's a real blade. oh my god nessie-san's got a knife. tori looks a little wary at it, but nods and scoots closer.

he is!!! attentive!!!!!]

[ "what do you have" "A KNIFE" "NO"

nessie nods and extends her hand, fingers curling slightly. her other lays on the dagger's hilt, ready to pick it up again. ]

Hand, please. It'll only hurt a little bit. [ a beat, and she turns her other hand up as well. ] Unless you'd prefer to cut me, or yourself - I just thought it'd be easier on you if I did it for you, I did.

[ healing can't be shown without some hurt, after all. ]

[... ah--]

Y-You really have to..?

[no, of course it's that way. you can't practice healing without hurting first. tori shivers, but-- he does trust nessie, and after a hesitant moment he lays his hand in hers, palm up. he's assuming, assuming.]

I-I'll be fine. I'm a big boy, I won't cry or anything.

[he. might cry.]

[ a good boy. she takes the dagger in hand, gripping tori's a little tighter as she slides the blade neatly across his palm. it'll sting, the way any cut does, only it's wide and a little deeper than a paper cut. ]

Healing magic, [ she begins softly, collecting some of the blood off the blade and smearing it on the jewel, ] often involves blood. Might not be too surprising - there's bound to always be some where healing's needed, there is, but it means it's a lot easier to cast than you think.

[ a beat, watching the blood collect in his palm. ]

Means it's a lot easier to do too much and overextend, too. [ she, a bit roughly, presses the flat of the blade against his palm, smearing his blood on the metal and closing her eyes. ] When you're first startin' out, it's easier to cast when you've got a focus - for me, it's always been knives, daggers, all that. This one's got ametrine in it - it helps with healing. Crystals are an important part of focusing magic too, though not all of them work.

[ but: the healing portion of this. as she speaks, the blade glows a faint white, and his skin burns but briefly. ]

Focus on what needs to be healed and imagine your magic flowing from yourself to the injury - not too much, or you'll make them sick, but not too little, or you won't heal it completely.

[ she lifts the blade away, now completely free of blood; his cut is healed too, though the blood spilled from it remains on her desk and her other hand. ]

It takes a lot of practice, so most Witches practice on themselves - it'd be bad to mess someone else up on accident. Remember that even a medicine can be a poison when there's too much of it, dearest Tori - it goes threefold for magic.

[he cries a little bit.

it stings, it hurts, even with long hair's training he's never been cut before and it's a new experience, a new kind of pain that's unlike what he's felt before, but he tries to concentrate, tries to take in nessie's words and bite his lip against the sting.

a focus... a focus, something to put magic in... blood often helps with healing magic, it's easy to overextend. ametrine helps with healing. crystals are an important part of focusing magic. magic flowing from himself into the injury, not too much, not too little.

... practicing, practicing on yourself. the cut stings still, aches the way that a healed wound tends to, but he's. hm. he has to hurt himself for practice. that's gonna be fun. tori flexes his hand, stares at the blood (his blood) on her hand and desk, then draws it back to himself and rubs it.]

What if... there's no blood? Like a bruise, or a burn. A broken bone. Um, do you have to use your-- your own?

Broken bone, you might have to. Depending on how severe the burns are, maybe then, too. Bruises are easy enough it's likely you won't have to use any blood at all.

[ a small pause, as she looks through her drawer and pulls out a handkerchief to wipe her hand off, as well as her desk. ]

I didn't have to use any blood to heal that wee cut of yours either, but it'd be a waste not to show you how to use it, wouldn't it?

[oh. oh, she didn't-- oh, okay. that is nice of her though, showing him... tori wipes at his face quickly, trying not to cry too much more, and clears throat.]

Mmhmm. I got it. Um, do you mind if I try on you..? I know you say that they usually practice on themselves, but I'm scared I won't do it right and make it worse.

[but nessie, nessie can probably stop him if it's wrong.]

[ oh, baby... she'll push the dagger towards him once she's done cleaning up, grinning as she holds her other hand out. ]

I think you're much braver for wanting to try it on someone else, little one. [ encouraging...!! ] Go on, Tori, you'll do it just right.

I trust you, Miss Nessie-san. If I do something wrong, I think you'll be able to stop it.

[he. doesn't have a lot of confidence in himself, but he's easily encouraged and cuts her just a bit on a finger -- long enough that it's a good wound to practice with, but not deep enough that, if he fucks up, it might not be too bad.

okay. okay. tori's a little shaky, but he'll awkwardly hold the blade against her new wound once he's applied the blood the way she had and. and try to insert magic. transfer magic. from him to her, a little bit at first and then more as he starts to feel a bit comfortable.

it definitely takes longer than nessie's quick spell, but. he can manage it. not too badly. he even looks a little proud of himself, if still shaky.]

[ it's been a while since someone else healed her - she doesn't go out too much these days, and when she gets hurt, she attends to herself - so it's a little odd to feel; nessie tenses only at his magic use, not at the cut he'd given her, and ruffles his hair once he's done. ]

Look at you! A right prodigy at this, aren't you. [ encouragement!! she leans over her desk, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. ] Good job, Tori. Enough practice and you'll master it quick as I did! I can promise you that.

[aehskghs A H HUG, A HUG... tori's not used to hugs unless they're by certain people, so his cheeks color and he sets the knife down before he hugs her back, relaxing a bit in relief. this is fine.]

Y-Yeah..? [he's actually Super Happy about being praised, which is the other reason he's blushing.] I mean, of course I will! Ehehe, I'm a natural at it, aren't I~? I'll practice a to~n so I can be just as good as you, Miss Nessie-san!

[sparkle sparkle... he wants to be praised more, so he's gonna work hard and show her the fruits of his labor...]

[ that's the way to do it. nessie squeezes him a little, drawing away after another moment. ]

I'm right sure of that. [ hm... ] The Coven's got an infirmary in its walls too, if you want to check in there and see if anyone'll take you under their wing. Tell 'em you're in on recommendation from Miss Nessie and they shouldn't put up a fight at all - you'll learn a lot from that, you will. Might be good to have a place to practice with people when I'm not around to help.

Is that really okay? I won't be in the way or anything like that?

[this is why connections good. charm the people in charge and you get recommendations. but he genuinely likes her and mhairi-san, so it's not like he's using them.]

As long as you do your darnedest, nah, you won't be.

[ she pinches his cheek, chuckling. ]

I believe in you, little Tori. You'll do wonderfully there.

[uwah, praise... someone Expectin somethin of him....... he can't fail either nessie's nor mhairi's expectations, no matter what.]
